Sylvester Cup: September 14, 2024

A collaborative event at the Washburn Stadium with the Boys and Girls program that remembers John Sylvester and Hallie Brown. John Sylvester was a captain and an all-state soccer player at Washburn that went on to play for the Minnesota Thunder and later returned to coach soccer at Washburn. John was an inspiration to a generation of soccer players in Minneapolis including Hallie Brown who died of Osteosarcoma around the same time that John Sylvester lost his long, courageous battle with ALS. At this game we honor them by awarding a college scholarship to one female and one male soccer player at Washburn during the spring of their senior year. Applicants are selected for the scholarship based on their demonstration of John Sylvester’s core values: Inclusiveness, making others better, going above and beyond and their passion for the game and hard work. Learn more and donate here.
