The Millers, now 12-5-3, have not made it this far in state tournament play since 1984 and could finish with its best finish ever if they defeat St. Cloud Tech in the tourney’s third-place match. This is the Millers’ seventh appearance in state, dating back to six appearances in the 1980s. On the way to state this year, the Millers defeated St. Louis Park, 3-0, #1 section seed Wayzata, 2-1, and #2 section seed Minneapolis Southwest, 2-1. The Millers defeated top-seeded Minnetonka in overtime in the state quarterfinals but lost in the semifinals to the Anoka Tornadoes.

St. Cloud Tech, with a roster of 26 players, is  entering the match with a 16-2-2 record, having lost only to Anoka and East Ridge. Tech defeated Brainerd, Moorhead, and Rogers in section 8AA playoffs, and won their quarterfinal match against Park Center, 2-0. Tech lost to East Ridge, 2-0, in the state semifinal. It is Tech’s second appearance in the state tourney, the first in 2008. The Tigers’ leading scorer is freshman #10 Mohamed Abdi, with 15 goals and 6 assists for the season.
