This year we are launching an online registration process for both the boys soccer registration and the collection of booster fees/contributions. The online registration form is available here and will allow you to register and pay all fees online. While additional forms must be submitted to the Washburn High School athletic office, online registration will allow us to streamline the registration process and allow students who are on vacation or out of town to pay required fees and register without having to attend a sports registration night.
How do I register online?
Online registration can be accessed here or by clicking on the button below.
What forms are required?
The following forms must be completed and submitted to the Washburn High School Athletic office by August 9, 2018.
- 2018-2019 MSHSL Eligibility Statement (part of the 2018-2019 MSHSL Eligibility Brochure)
- For new players or players who have not had a sports physical in the last three years: 2018-19 MSHSL Physical Exam Form
- For all players with a sports physical completed within the last three years: 2018-19 Sports Health Questionnaire
- Washburn/Minneapolis Public Schools Athletics Player Information – Emergency Contact Form
- Minneapolis Public Schools Media Release Form (if you have not already submitted one before)
Is online registration available for the girls soccer program?
No. Online registration is only currently available for those participating in the boys soccer program. The same forms, however, are required for all student-athletes planning to compete in the fall.
What is the deadline to register?
The deadline is August 9, 2018, for registering and for submitting all required forms.
How much does it cost?
It costs $75 to register for tryouts and boys soccer. In addition, the boosters are encouraging as many parents as possible to contribute $100 to the Washburn Soccer Boosters, which uses the funds to help build and maintain a strong boys soccer program. More information about the boosters is here. You do not need contribute to the boosters in order to play Washburn soccer.
What if my son does not make a team?
The $75 participating fee and booster contributions are refunded if a player does not make a team or if he chooses not to play on the team for which he is selected.
Are there scholarships available to cover the $75 participation fee?
Yes. You should talk to Reggie Perkins, the Washburn Athletic Director, to learn whether a scholarship is available for you. If you qualify, you will be given a code you can use to apply the scholarship as part of online registration. Mr. Perkins’s email and phone number are email@example.com and (612) 668-3456. Due to school district budget cuts, he is not in the athletic office until August 1, 2018.
How do I submit the additional forms?
You can submit them at the Washburn sports registration night, which is at Pearl Park on August 1, 2018, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. You can also do one of two things:
1) drop the forms off at the Washburn athletic office during office hours (check ahead for hours as construction this summer has impacted the building); or
2) mail them to the Washburn athletic office at the following address:
Washburn High School
ATTN: Deb Lilly/Athletics
201 West 49th Street
Minneapolis MN 55419
Due to construction at Washburn High School this summer, check with the athletic office first to determine if it is open. The athletic office phone number is (612) 668-3457.
Can my son participate in captain’s practices on August 6-10, even though he’s not registered or has not submitted his sports physical?
Yes, a player does not need to be pre-registered or have a physical on file in order to participate in captain’s practices, which are optional practices run by incoming varsity team captains.
When are tryouts?
Boys soccer tryouts begin August 13, 2018, at 7:30am at Washburn Stadium. You can find more information about tryouts, team selection, and other pre-season activities here.
Where can a player get a sports physical?
Usually, through your own physician or medical clinic. TRIA, a local sports medicine clinic, is also providing free high school sports physicals, though dates are limited at the Bloomington office to August 2 and August 9. Information about TRIA is here. Finally, check with school-based clinics at Washburn, Roosevelt, and Southwest, which should offer MSHSL physicals over the summer.
Is there a season schedule yet?
Yes, the schedule for each of the five teams is now listed here as well as on each team’s page. As with every season, matches may be added, dropped, or rescheduled, sometimes at the last minute due to any number of factors. Accordingly, the schedule will typically change as the season gets underway.
